Cass O’Neil has spent the majority of her career on the west coast of Canada. With a background in documentary and commercial filmmaking, her style can best be described as intimate, dreamlike and emotional. As a freelance cinematographer and member of ICG 669 (Western Canada) her time is spent in between the narrative, documentary, and commercial worlds.
Recent projects include AMPLIFY HER (2019, feature documentary, Prime Video) which explores the rise of the feminine in the electronic music world. Cass was the cinematographer and editor for the Amplify Her Universe, documenting female-identifying animators and illustration artists at work creating the comic book series. LIFE AFTER DARK (short documentary) explores the stories of suicide survivors across Canada & their story of hope. TENILLE TOWNES: BIG HEARTS (short documentary, Sony Nashville) tells the story of Tenille’s fundraising efforts for the youth shelter in Northern Alberta.
She prides herself on making subjects comfortable in front of the camera to allow their stories to be told with authenticity. The drive to create thoughtful imagery is always there: when not working on projects, she can be found travelling the world with a camera in hand.
